We bought Scully as a yearling when we realized he was a big, tall, unflappable colt. Bursting with curiosity and affection, all his first experiences where nothing but positive. The first time he saw an ATV he walked up and put his head in the driver’s lap; nothing has changed. We’ve put on a lot of miles in these mountains, and Scully takes everything in stride.

A few years ago, to our absolute heartbreak, Scully foundered in an alfalfa accident. He had nearly 2 years off while we tried natural trimming and followed all the vet’s instructions, fingers crossed for a sound, healthy horse. The good news is it worked!! This wonderful horse is back again, and boy, does he love to cruise around the mountains with all his buddies. Thanks to our farrier, Carson Rosenke, with corrective shoeing for our rocky environment, this horse is good to go and happy for it.

We’re very careful with him; considering him sort of an honorary member of the crew. (He gets a lot more days off than he works - a bit like a union worker with high seniority.) Scully’s a lot of fun to ride, and at 17 hands, he can be a lot of horse. Usually he falls into the lazy category, but should he feel motivated when asked and all the stars in the universe are aligned, he’ll offer you a gallop that’ll make your eyes water with speed – demonstrating his “Dash for Cash” running Quarterhorse lineage.  Good luck, however, at prying him out of Ainsley’s hands; Scully’s her baby and the top choice as guide horse.
