Saxon isn’t very tall but has an incredibly sturdy build and is bred to the bone for mountain work – he was born wild out on the Osooyos Indian Reservation, running on thousands of acres and learning at his mother’s side how to be surefooted in the wilderness. He has such a great, willing attitude and a sweetness about him. Saxon is too much fun, always snooping and the first to come up to say “Hi” out in the pasture.
He hasn’t had a huge number of miles out on the trail yet – with the long rides we do, it’s very easy to burn out a younger horse if they are not carefully conditioned for the work – mentally and physically. We tend to bring the young horses along quite slowly – then wake up one morning and say, “What! He’s how old???” Time to go to work, buddy!
