B.C. Horse Vacations
Big Guy
5 year old 17.2HH Percheron
1600 lbs.
Grey Gelding with white flecks and blaze
Big Guy was a slightly larger shopping accident than Celeste, his half sister. His dad is the 18.2 hand Percheron, his mom a massive dapple grey called Fancy. We absolutely had to buy him when we realized that gentle giant is the truly the nature of these fabulous heavy horses. He is so kind and curious, padding around the pasture like an elephant. He plays crazy gelding games with the younger horses. One day he was on his knees with Bo’s entire knee in his mouth. (“Drop him. Bad horse. Drop him…”) He’s not as quick as the saddle horses but he’s learned how to hockey check and use that size to send his opponents flying. And a good time is had by all!
Big Guy is very well put together, and not quite a broad as one might expect – you can actually get your legs around him. He was lightly started under saddle last winter, and for 2008 he can look forward to beginning his career as the guide horse, until he has enough miles and confidence to be a full-fledged member of The Crew. He’s a very sweet natured, easy going horse – but we may have to trim off some of the higher branches out on the trails in order for him to fit. It’ll be worth the extra effort – riding Big Guy is like trail riding on the couch.
